November 15, 2023 prof. Dominik Mierzejewski gave an interview to the Polish Press Agency about the Chinese-American rivalry in the context of President Xi Jinping's meeting with President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the APEC summit in San Francisco. On October 27, 2023, Dr. Mateusz Chatys was a guest of Mateusz Grzeszczuk in the podcast "Podróż bez paszportu", in which he presented the circumstances of Sino-Philippine tensions in the South China Sea around the Secon Thomas Shoal. Dr. Chatys also drew attention to the characteristics of China's assertive policy in the South China Sea, based primarily on operations in the so-called "gray zone". On August 24, 2023, Dr. Mateusz Chatys was a guest of Mateusz Grzeszczuk in the podcast "Podróż bez paszportu", in which he presented the circumstances of the return to the country of the former Prime Minister of Thailand from exile. Dr. Chatys also drew attention to the turmoil on the political scene in Thailand related to the election of a new prime minister and the formation of a government after the elections that took place in May 2023. On June 24, 2023, Dr Bartosz Kowalski took part in the broadcast "Świat do Trzeciej" on Polish Radio Three, where he spoke with editor Rafał Tomański about the effects of Antony Blinken's visit to China in the context of Joe Biden's statements about Xi Jinping and reports about Chinese espionage activity in Cuba. On June 6, 2023, an article by Prof. Mierzejewski devoted to the efforts of China and the United States to de-escalate tensions in bilateral relations was published. According to Prof. Mierzejewski, both China and the US are aware that the results of diplomatic talks will decide whether the rivalry will not turn into a conflict. Full article available here.

On May 21, 2023, Prof. Dominik Mierzejewski took part in the broadcast "Srodek od środka" on Polish Radio 24. The conversation with Rafał Tomański concerned the two-day summit of the leaders of five Central Asian countries and China in Xi'an. Prof. Mierzejewski pointed out the connections between the city where the summit took place and the history and the period of the greatest prosperity of the Silk Road. According to Prof. Mierzejewski, the summit was intended to show that China is still active. Therefore it wasn't a coincidence it was organised simultaneously with the G7 summit in Japan. May 18, 2023 prof. Mierzejewski, together with Brent Sadler, an expert from The Heritage Foundation, took part in the "World Today" program. The conversation concerned the current situation in East Asia, with particular emphasis on the situation between the People's Republic of China and Taiwan in the context of American policy. On May 18, 2023, Dr Mateusz Chatys was a guest of Mateusz Grzeszczuk in the podcast "Podróż bez paszportu", in which he presented the process of rebuilding and then modernizing the alliance between the Philippines and the United States. Dr Chatys paid special attention to the effects of the first official visit of President Ferdinand Morcos Jr. in Washington, during which a number of key decisions were made in the field of security cooperation, but there were little specifics regarding the strengthening of bilateral economic cooperation. On March 21, 2023, Dr Marcin Socha took part in the broadcast "Połączenie" on TOK FM radio. The conversation with Jakub Janiszewski concerned the unexpected visit of the Japanese Prime Minister to Ukraine, as well as Scholz's visit to Japan and the latest breakthrough in Japanese-Korean relations. March 4, 2023, prof. Dominik Mierzejewski and Dr Michał Zaręba took part in the broadcast "Świat do trzeciej" on Polish Radio Three, where they talked with the editor Rafał Tomański on topics related to China and Vietnam. Prof. Mierzejewski presented details of the "two sessions" of the Chinese parliament and discussed the position of the new Prime Minister Li Qiang. In addition, he analyzed the reset in Sino-American relations. In turn, Dr Zaręba presented the circumstances of the election of the new president of Vietnam. On February 11, 2023, Dr Mateusz Chatys took part in the broadcast "Świat do trzeciej" on Polish Radio Three, where he spoke with editor Rafał Tomański about extending the agreement on enhanced defense cooperation between the United States and the Philippines to include four new military bases. In addition, Dr Chatys presented the latest findings from the visit of the President of the Philippines to Japan and discussed the threats arising from the conflict in the Taiwan Strait for the government in Manila. On February 10, 2023, Dr Mateusz Chatys was a guest of Mateusz Grzeszczuk in the podcast "Travel without a passport", in which he presented the situation on the internal political scene of Malaysia. In addition, Dr Chatys discussed the approach of the Malaysian government to the current situation in the international arena, including the war in Ukraine. On February 2, 2023, Dr Mateusz Chatys took part in the "Dzień na świecie" broadcast by Polsat, in which he spoke with editor Jan Mikruta about the US Secretary of Defense's visit to the Philippines. Dr Chatys drew attention to the groundbreaking importance of the decision to include four additional military bases in the Philippines with the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement signed by both countries in 2014. Issues regarding the role of the Philippines in the Sino-American rivalry in the South China Sea and the Taiwan Strait were also raised.

2022

On November 7, 2022, an interview by Katarzyna Mokrzycka with Przemysław Ciborek was published on the "300 Gospodarka" website. The conversation was devoted to cooperation between the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and China. The topics discussed included, among others, issues related to Chinese investments in the region, as well as political and interpersonal relations within the 14+1 format. 2021

November 3, 2021. In the program "The World in Zoom" (Polskie Radio 24), prof. Mierzejewski commented on the energy crisis in China. He pointed out that China wanted to declare itself a leader in the fight against climate warming because the United States withdrew from it. On the other hand, Beijing remained on the battlefield as a leader, imposing very high standards, but the closure of mines from 2016 resulted in energy shortages. Dr. Beczkowska, who referred to the summit of the V4 Group and the planned meeting of the Polish prime minister with the leader of South Korea, was also a guest of the program. July 2, 2021. It is worth looking at communist ideology in China as the glue holding China together, Professor Mierzejewski told Polish Radio 24. He discussed the role of external ideology, which, because of its diversified ways of thinking, is a fundamental element that limits disputes within China. It is paradoxically a factor that enables the unification of a complex organism like China. Later, the head of CAA UL discussed three approaches to ideology: Mao Zedong's, Deng Xiaoping's and Xi Jinping's. June 28, 2021. Chinese and U.S. authorities fear the growing role of technology giants that could undermine the legitimacy of political systems - writes professor Dominik Mierzejewski in "Rzeczpospolita". In the text, he outlines the differences between the United States and the People's Republic of China. He discusses the similar processes in the two countries, including the implementation of anti-monopoly laws. According to Mierzejewski, although motivated in different ways, parallel processes constitute an important element of contemporary international relations. 2020

On July 1, 2020, in the "More World" program, prof. Mierzejewski talked about the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Communist Party of China. The PRC authorities are intensifying the propaganda of success ahead of the 100th anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party. Cities were filled with party posters, 100 rappers recorded patriotic hip-hop song, and cinemas were ordered to show historical propaganda films. The entire interview is available to listen to here.

On February 27 2020, Prof. D Mierzejewski commented on the coronavirus case in the radio program "Bez przesady" (Without exaggeration) broadcast by Kamila Litman on Radio Lodz. He raised the issue of centralization of power in China and the reaction of Thai and Singaporean authorities to the spreading COVID-19 epidemic. Read more here.

 

On January 26, 2020 in the Polish Radio broadcast of the editor Bogumil Husejnow "World in Lens" Prof. Mierzejewski analyzed the situation in connection with the establishment of the central leadership group for the fight against coronavirus, the reaction of President Xi Jinping and the possible economic consequences. 2019

On January 30, 2019, Rzeczpospolita published the article "Beijing's Belt and Road Umbrella," in which Prof. Mierzejewski comments on the relationship between the political center in Beijing and the provinces. Key to understanding the "Belt and Road" is the analysis of internal dynamics in China. Read more here.

 

2017

November 22, 2017. The Centre for Asian Affairs of the University of Lodz, one of whose primary goals is to organize business meetings, advice on local cooperation, is written about by the City Hall of Lodz. Read more here.

 

November 22, 2017. During the Think-tank Forum in Budapest (20.11.2017), Prof. Mierzejewski gave an interview to the People's Daily. He acknowledged that the 16+1 platform is rather bilateral. He suggested that local government diplomacy can be an element of creating real engagement in multilateral cooperation. An example of this type is Guangzhou, which is the only one in China to form multilateral city alliances with, for example, Los Angeles and Aukland. This could prove an interesting model for cities in Central Europe and China.

 

On October 24, 2017, portal defence24.pl published an interview with Prof. Mierzejewski on concluding CCP Congress in Beijing. The interview raised issues of the new possible foreign policy directions. As it was pointed out in the interview, all threads of the Chinese foreign policy should be considered not so much in the international context but rather in the internal one. Read more here.

 

On October 23, 2017, Professor Mierzejewski and Dr. Justyna Szczudlik of the Polish Institute of International Affairs commented on the decisions of the 19th Congress of the Communist Party of China on the program "That Was a Day in the World" on Polsat News. They discussed the broader context of changes in the People's Republic of China, possible scenarios for cooperation between China and Russia, and the challenges the West faces as a result of China's growing power.

 

On October 16, 2017, Professor Mierzejewski commented on the cooperation between Lodz and Chengdu for the Chinese news portal news.163.com In a brief statement, he emphasized the role of Lodz as a link with China and outlined further possible steps of cooperation.

 

On September 16, 2017, Prof. Mierzejewski presented the importance of relations at the local level in the People's Daily statement. He used an example of Cooperation between Lodz and Sichuan Province. The conversation suggested the need for joint efforts to reduce asymmetries in bilateral trade.

 

On September 4, 2017, in an interview with the Polish Press Agency, the head of the Center for Asian Affairs at the University of Lodz, Prof. Mierzejewski, acknowledged that negotiations at the United Nations would be crucial in the Korean crisis. Although the Six-Party Talks did not resolve the crisis, the multipolar mechanism based on the Concert of Powers should be recognized as the superior mechanism in resolving the nuclear standoff. June 28, 2017. "The KGHM concern and the University of Lodz are looking into the current situation in East Asia with particular emphasis on the role of China in the economy of Central Europe. KGHM accounts for more than half the value of Polish exports to China. The research will be conducted by the Centre for Asian Affairs of the University of Lodz." - read more here.

 

On June 21, 2017, Professor Mierzejewski's short contributions to the South China Morning Post were published. The articles, written by Wade Shepard, were dedicated to China's Belt and Road initiative. Read more here and here.

 

On January 9, 2017, Professor Mierzejewski commented on the cancellation of the tender at Pryncypalna Street in Lodz, Poland. One should take a closer look at the centralization processes taking place in China. As a result of those processes during the visit of President Xi Jinping to Poland, the local rail link project had not been promoted.  Instead, the authorities presented the brand "China Railway Express".

2016

On June 16, 2016, during the 16+1 meeting in Tangshan (Hebei province), Xinhua news agency interviewed Prof. Mierzejewski. The interview focused on the history of Lodz and Lodz Province activities. Prof. talked about the possibility of further cooperation with particular emphasis on higher education. More on the website via WeChat app (QR Code).

 

On January 28, 2016, Konrad Godlewski, who works with the Center for Asian Affairs, discusses the issue of rail connectivity in Sino-European efforts around "One Belt, One Road" in an interview for Forbes.  Wade Shepard's entire article is available here.
